Cuisine pub britannique traditionnelle

Took forever between our starter and mains. 40 mins approx. When the mains did come, it was obvious that one of the dishes was just blasted in the microwave and not properly prepared (fish and chorizo fish cakes). The buttermilk burger was average. I wouldn’t be returning for food, but a great beer garden to enjoy some sunshine, when it comes out.

The food was genuinely so bad , it was borderline inedible , the staff and location are fabulous but the food was expensive and genuinely disgusting, could barely eat more than a bite or two , would not eat here again

Good experience, good food. A nice place to hang out after hiking Arthur's Seat. It's also a very old pub. Beers are good. Good was great. More of a high end pub. Would recommend.

Great place. Incredible food, probably the best beef roast I’ve ever had. Very friendly staff. Kind of hard to get there on foot from the city centre, but nevertheless a great place. Will definitely visit again when I hopefully visit Scotland again.

We had Sunday Roast (Beef Duo Roast and the Roast Chicken), along with Halloumi fries and the Spicy Chicken bites for starters, then the apple tart and the poached pear for dessert. It was a birthday lunch for myself, and everything was perfect. We had a wonderful table upstairs, right by the radiator (perfect on a cold day!), and service was incredibly attentive and prompt. The food was perfection as always. All of it delicious, well-cooked and nicely-presented. The atmosphere of The Sheep Heid Inn is a blend of modern and historical, in a gorgeous location just by Arthur's Seat and the small village there, and we enjoy eating there each time we're in Edinburgh.

Amazing pub. Landlord very friendly, staff lovely, although the over use of the wprds nice and perfect were grating. 1/2 roast chicken was nice, and the pork was nice. I could have done with it hot rather than lukewarm. Very dog friendly If we are ever back in the area we will definitely visit again.

This was our Valentines night out so had to be a little special. The food was good nothing special , my wife had the pie and I the pork belly side of billionaire fries and garlic pizza to share. My wife loved her pie very tasty me on the other hand, mmmm mash was not even warm almost cold ( get mash wrong) especially when both plates had mash in them. Pork slightly over cooked a bit chewy, scallops were fine. Fries yummy and garlic pizza was good too. No steaks on the menu a little disappointed but understandable after Valentine's Day, but this being planned properly by the head chef would not happen. Sorry sheep's heid we expected much more 😒

The food and drinks were awesome! We also asked our server for her best story about the area or the pub, and she told us a very creepy story about the witches who were dragged up the nearby alley. That made our visit so much more entertaining. This is definitely a place we will come back to on our next visit to Edinburgh.

The Sheep Heid was our 10th stop in a tour of over 17 pubs around Edinburgh (Although technically this one is in Duddington). It also answered the question of why did the man climb the mountain (Arthur's Seat)? To get to the Sheep Heid Pub on the other side! Here we enjoyed a Bests and a Bitter & Twisted, along with a meal of Homemade Cod, Sloe Gin Smoked Salmon, and Spinach Fish Cakes, and Slow Cooked British Corned Salt Beef Hash. Both delicious. A very old pub, dating back to 1360, it has its own internal skittles court where reportedly the royals used to come and play.

Ignored of my 2 emails after offering a time slot for the bowling alley and when chased for a third time via phone, the slot had then been taken which ruined birthday plans. Improvement on communication skills is required!

Incredible and historic location conveniently located near a pristine and beautiful location and right down from Arthur’s Seat. The pub breathes atmosphere and has a lovely staff (thank you to Harry for making it extra special by showing us some of the history of the place).

Our most recent visit to the Sheep Heid unfortunately was not a good one . This is a frequent haunt of ours but on this occasion the food was a total disappointment. We started with a very dry portion of small pieces of Chipotle Chicken that had no sauce or added garnish. This is a dish that has changed so much over the last year at the Sheep Heid that I don’t think I would ever order again. Our mains of Roast Beef with all the trimmings were good but then more disappointment with the desserts was to follow. We ordered a Chocolate Brownie that was burnt and so hard it was difficult to eat along with a Crème Brûlée that was so small, at £9.25 must be a real money earner. The Brûlée was the size of a dessert spoon and only 5mm thick ! How the manager could serve this to us without getting a red face is astonishing. I wanted to send our poor dishes back but as it was my wife’s birthday she didn’t want a fuss made, I wish I had! I will post some photos showing the deterioration in the dishes mentioned over our last several visits and leave it for you to decide whether to visit or not. The last photos will show the Crème Brûlée that was terrible and the burnt Brownie. If you do go, just order a main ! It would now appear that most of my photos have not been posted !!! This could be because of my comments on the standard of food.
